In Memorium

I spent most of last August redoing the layout of the library.  I loved it, the kids loved it, the other teachers and parents loved it.  So I wasn't overly happy when it was announced that the library would be remodeled.  I forced myself into the planning process and am very excited about the changes that will be coming.  Unfotunately some of the things I loved about the old space will not make it into the new space.  I won't have quite as much room.  Previously I had the library space and a small classroom for lessons and story time.  I'll lose a little shelving and hardest for me to handle is the lounging space I will lose.  However I will be connected with the computer lab and will have an office of sorts, so there are pluses and minuses.

I did want to show off my hard work, so I do have some pictures of the "old" space.  I'm sure that after I've moved back in I will be just as excited about the new space, so you can expect to see more pictures (if my resolutions hold).

This is the library "classroom."  When I have story time the tables are wheeled off to the side. I spent forever to paint the room.  I was going to paint a full mural, but I was painting in August in a building without air conditioning.

When I need tables for students to work on, they are just wheeled out.

This is the library.  On the left are the computers to search the OPAC.  The racks by the two boys hold various book displays.  The rack to the left is the upper grade fiction.  In the background is the Dewey section which wraps around the wall.

These are the OPAC computers being guarded by Greg Heffley.

The picture book area and "lounge" seating.  The quote on the wall says, "Anything can happen when you open a book."

The lounge seating are upholstered cubes and one large upholstered octogon that started out life as a coffee table.  I am the queen of thrifty finds.

Everything from the two spaces (library and classroom) is crammed into the classroom space waiting for construction to be finished.  If you get claustrophobic, this is NOT the place for you.

Goodbye old library, you served us well.
