It's Monday! What are you reading?

I haven't done a great deal of reading lately.  My focus has been on getting ready for school.  At least that is the excuse that I am using.

I haven't totally forgotten how to read.  For Mother's Day I received a Kindle Fire, so I have been doing a lot of reading over the summer.  Most of the books have been actual adult books (no not THAT kind of adult books).  If I am reading books to recommend to my students, I either am reading library copies or I purchase the book to donate to the library when I am done.

I have been taking advantage of the public library to get books for my Kindle.  Of course that usually means sitting indefinately on waiting lists.  Amazingly just this last week all 3 of the books I had been waiting for became available, so I need to start reading before they expire!

Anyway....the only book I read last week was

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
I was blown away by the history of medical research and how recent and shady that history is.

But I recently read
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
Pleasae tell me there will be a sequel.  I really want the story to continue. But something about the story is driving me crazy.  It reminded me a lot of a movie I saw on TV a few years ago, and I can't remember the name of it.

On my list for this week are:
Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford
The Ruins of Evermore: The Timelight Awakening by David J. Saccheri
The Lost Stories (Ranger Apprentice Series) by John Flanagan

Also on my to do list for this week is to make a Currently Reading sign to hang outside the library.  I'd like to make magnetic versions for the students to hang on their lockers.

That time of year again

It seems like every back to school season, I try to get back on the ball and blog.  Perhaps this year I will stick with it a bit more.

EXCUSE TIME:
The last year was jam packed.  During the summer the library was packed away while a new space was remodeled.  Of course, that was delayed, so I had to rush to get everything set up.  I didn't do too bad and things would have been perfect from there, but I was also teaching morning preKindergarten and that space was also being remodeled.  That remodel was pushed back even later than the library.  Literally the week before school started things were just starting to get finished.  Instead of the fall workshops we were painting and getting furniture in and playground equipment built.

That is behind me (thankfully) and there was no remodel or moving or rearranging this summer.  Okay, no major rearranging. I am back to being in the library only.  That is bitter sweet.  It was very stressful juggling the two positions, but I will miss having a class and the things I had planned on doing with them this year.  Not everything is wasted as I will see all 4 preK classes for both library and computer lab this year.

MOVING ON:
With fingers crossed I am hoping to be more faithful with my blog.  No promises though.  I have 2 more days to get things up and ready for this year.  I hope to get some pics of the new space (a year old now).  I would like to be true to my blog title and actually post some things the kids in the library are doing.  Like I said, no promises, but maybe this will be the magic year.
