I haven't done a great deal of reading lately. My focus has been on getting ready for school. At least that is the excuse that I am using.
I haven't totally forgotten how to read. For Mother's Day I received a Kindle Fire, so I have been doing a lot of reading over the summer. Most of the books have been actual adult books (no not THAT kind of adult books). If I am reading books to recommend to my students, I either am reading library copies or I purchase the book to donate to the library when I am done.
I have been taking advantage of the public library to get books for my Kindle. Of course that usually means sitting indefinately on waiting lists. Amazingly just this last week all 3 of the books I had been waiting for became available, so I need to start reading before they expire!
Anyway....the only book I read last week was
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
I was blown away by the history of medical research and how recent and shady that history is.
But I recently read
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
Pleasae tell me there will be a sequel. I really want the story to continue. But something about the story is driving me crazy. It reminded me a lot of a movie I saw on TV a few years ago, and I can't remember the name of it.
On my list for this week are:
Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford
The Ruins of Evermore: The Timelight Awakening by David J. Saccheri
The Lost Stories (Ranger Apprentice Series) by John Flanagan
Also on my to do list for this week is to make a Currently Reading sign to hang outside the library. I'd like to make magnetic versions for the students to hang on their lockers.
